A personal favorite, Edward Hopper is an American painter best known for his oil paintings, including Early Sunday Moring and Nighthawks. His spare and finely-calculated renderings reflected his vision of modern American life.

Composer Spotlight

Ludwig von Beethoven

b. 1770, d.1827

Ludwig von Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. Beethoven's work (e.g. Symphony No. 5 in C minor) is perhaps the most recognized in classical music. Beethoven began to lose his hearing in his twenties, but continued to compose, perform, and conduct even after he was completely deaf. He remains one of the most acclaimed and influential composers of all time.
